A Life of Yes, Birthed in the Secret Place

By Brittany Wheeler

When I was 12 years old, God called and filled me with the Holy Spirit. He asked me to surrender my life so I could fully live, love, and give Him a heart of YES to His call and will for my life. I didn’t know what I was signing up for then, but I knew that was what my heart longed for: to know and be known by Him.

My heart longs to know and be known by God. I want to live a life of surrender and abide fully in the One who has loved and called us.

He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.“ Matthew 10:39 “.

The Lord began to draw me into His presence to sit at His feet, loving and worshipping Him. Day by day, hour by hour, my heart grew increasingly in love with Him. I cherished the moments and times in the secret place with Him. He would speak and show me different things in my heart and about my life. He asked me to trust Him and position my heart in a posture of YES to do whatever He asked so He could use me and my life for His Glory.

Right away, I told Him YES! It is my joy to follow Him, to lay down my life to pick up His no matter the cost. I want to serve Him and be used by Him. I want my life to represent Christ and be a fragrant offering to Him

The Lord called me into ministry and missions at a young age, and I have had the honor to travel and minister worldwide. Over the years, I have continued to have the heart posture of Yes and learned to yield to His heart and voice. I have learned to say Yes to His plans, Yes to His future, Yes to His timing, and Yes to wherever He leads.

It hasn’t always been easy, but it has been a fun and wild adventure!  More than I could ever have asked for or imagined for my life. As I continued to obey and trust the Lord, I built a history with Him, and it became easier to jump when He asked me to jump.  He is faithful! He does not fail and is worthy of our Yes, even if it is a “scared” Yes!

There is always a cost for your Yes. Jesus’ Yes cost Him His life, but the joy set before Him caused Him to endure the cross. The joy Jesus experienced can only come from the secret place of knowing the One who has called you for a greater purpose.

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2.

I believe the Lord is drawing us to a place of surrender, to truly abide in Him, to be dependent like a child. The Lord showed me a picture of what it looks like for us to “abide” in Him. I saw a picture of a child pressed against the father, tucked in, protected, and dependent on the father.

“I am the vine; You are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me, you can do nothing. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:5-11.

I feel an urgency to prepare our hearts and listen expectantly for God’s voice, whatever He calls us to do. Will we set aside our agendas and embrace His purposes in this hour? God is asking us, ‘Do you see what I see? Do you hear what I hear? Will you follow where I lead?’ Just like Jesus, we should only do what we see our Father doing.

“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” John 5:19

I have a burning in my heart to live for more, to live my life with purpose and love, and do the will of my Father no matter the cost and live fully each day for Him. I want to spend my life on Him. We get one life on earth to live out the purposes and plans He has created us for. I don’t want to waste my life on anything less than what He has called me to. He created each one of us with a unique plan and purpose.

So, how do we yield our hearts and lives to the Father? It starts in the secret place by going deeper with Him. There was a season when I would spend hours and hours with the Lord. I would say no to other things to make time to be in His presence. There were nights when I would feel a drawing in my spirit and an excitement to come and be with Him. Sometimes, it was worship, pouring out my life as an offering. Sometimes, it was prayer and other times it was just listening and sitting in His presence. This kind of intimacy with God has been my life source!

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Do you have a desire to experience the presence of God? Are you hungry to deepen your connection with Him? The Lord’s Spirit always draws our hearts into a deeper intimacy with Him.  God wants to reveal the mysteries of Heaven and speak to you personally. He wants to take your life and use it in ways you have never imagined!  Don’t settle for the bare minimum!

“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭2‬.

What if we kept our lamps full of oil, burning for Him, and we were so full of His presence and His anointing that we could not help but overflow onto everything and everyone around us?

I want to encourage you to say Yes to God and seek intimacy with Him in the secret place as your source of life!
