Have you ever walked into a room and felt small? You glance around and it looks like every
person around you is further along in their walk, whether professionally, financially, spiritually, or
relationally. I’ve also been there. It’s not the best feeling in the world and often it leaves you
feeling less than or intimidated by those around you. When you live in a world of “fake it ‘til you
make it” you kid yourself into thinking the facade is what matters most. I remember my first job
out of college. I was the youngest and greenest person in the office and every day I felt the need to put on my big girl clothes and accessorize them with a front that said, “I have it handled.” I remember being asked questions and answering with “Of course” or “You know it” when I actually didn’t know it...at all.
I’m happy to say, though, that I have grown a bit since then and now I find myself shifting out of
the “fake it ‘til you make it” lifestyle. Some might credit that to maturity and experience, but all
the credit goes to God. He gave me a deep revelation that I want to share with all of you. 1
Timothy 4:12 says, “Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an
example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” The Lord wants
you to realize this truth. No matter where you find yourself in your career, relationships, or even
in your finances you are a leader. You’re an ambassador of heaven and neither your age nor
your experience can disqualify you. When you walk into that room that makes you feel small, let
the Word of God lead you and remind you of who you are. Here are 4 verses that encourage
me:
1. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the
believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
2. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and
self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
3. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I
know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
4. “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere
so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”
Hebrews 10:35-36 (my personal favorite)
