Martha, Martha...

Do you ever catch yourself not being able to find the time to talk with The Father? How about even scheduling it into your day just to have something come up that takes its place? You are not alone! In Luke 10:38 while Jesus was traveling, He was invited into the home of Mary and Martha for a meal. Mary was running around cleaning, cooking, and frantically trying to get everything perfect. She looks over at her Sister Martha who is sitting at the feet of Jesus listening to His every word. Jesus looks at Martha and says this in verse 41 “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”

I love what Jesus says here “but only one thing is necessary”. It reminds me of something else Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

It’s so easy to get caught up in the potential stresses, pressures, and anxieties of the day and forget to do the one thing that is essential for peace, joy, and His grace! This one thing is to simply make the first part of your day His part of your day. Now you need to understand that prayer is a lifestyle and something that we need to do without ceasing but that will look different for each of us so don’t be overwhelmed with that statement. I have found that when I make time for him in the mornings, whether it’s five minutes or an hour, the rest of my day flows so much better. I’m more aware of His presence and His help throughout the day than if I had waited and only gone to Him when everything was in disarray.

Our Father is so patient and full of mercy! He simply needs us to make Him our priority, and then He can bless the rest!
