1: The number on lesson every leader needs to know

There is so much great content on leadership available today which makes it hard to know where to start and what’s important. You may have a problem that needs to be solved and need help with that specific thing, but don’t want to have to read through an entire book that may or may not help you solve the problem you face. The truth is there’s a lot of quality content out there, but if you're like most leaders you really need something now and that will help you make progress this week.

With that in mind, I really believe that the most important leadership lesson every leader should know is simple but powerful. That lesson is to follow your heart. The bible tells us in Proverbs 4:23 that out of our heart flows all the issues of life.

That means whether you're dealing with staffing, customers, or trying to get more sales your heart has the answer. If we take time to listen to our heart, God will give us wisdom on the decisions we need to make in order to get the results we desire. Our heart knows when we need to make a personnel change, it knows when we push harder on sales and when we need to ease up, and it definitely knows where and who we should invest our time with to see success. You might be thinking this is an overly spiritual answer to improve as a leader and that you really just need some practical and achievable advice. If you take some time to step back and look at your challenge and ask yourself a question. The question is what’s the consistent thought or idea in my heart that keeps coming up again and again on how to solve the problem. It’s there you will find the answer you’ve been looking for that will help you lead.

Many times we are guilty of overthinking and end up stuck. As leaders, if we can slow down and get quiet, the advice we’ve been looking for usually has been in our heart the whole time.
